Structural Design Experience of Aluminum Die Castings

1. Considering the issue of wall thickness, a significant difference in thickness can have an impact on the filling process;

2. Consider the issue of demolding, which is very important in aluminum die-casting practice and often presents such problems in reality. This is much more difficult to handle than injection molding demolding, so special attention should be paid to the setting of the draft angle and the calculation of the dynamic and fixed demolding force. Usually, the draft angle is 1-3 degrees. Considering the smoothness of demolding, the draft angle for external demolding is smaller than that for internal demolding, which is only 1 degree, while the draft angle for internal demolding is about 2-3 degrees;

3. When designing, consider the issue of mold design. If there are multiple suction positions in different directions, try to place them at both ends as much as possible, and it is best not to place them at the lower suction position. This can easily cause problems if the suction position is lowered for a long time;

4. Some die-casting parts may have special requirements for appearance, such as oil spraying, powder spraying, etc. In this case, the layout should avoid important appearance directions to facilitate the setting of gate overflow grooves;

5. In terms of layout, try to avoid presenting layouts that lead to complex mold layouts, such as having to use multiple core extractors or spiral core extractors;

6. For parts that require surface processing, it is important to leave a suitable amount of space in the part design, not too much, otherwise all the air holes inside will be exposed, and not too little. Otherwise, after rough and fine positioning processing, the black skin will not be removed yet, and you will have to spark on the mold again. How much should be left, and the best amount should not be greater than 0.8mm? This way, the air holes will not be visible on the processed surface because of the protection of the hard layer;

7. Another thing is to pay attention to material selection, whether to use ADC12 or A380 depends on specific requirements;

8. Aluminum alloy has no elasticity, and to make a buckle, it only needs to be matched with plastic;

9. Usually, deep holes cannot be made! Only make holes when opening the mold, and then proceed with post-processing;

10. If it is a thin-walled part, it cannot be too thin and must be reinforced with ribs to increase bending resistance! Due to the temperature of aluminum castings being around 800 degrees Celsius! The lifespan of molds is usually relatively short, and if they are made like motor casings, they will be damaged at around 80K!
